INVENTION PROFILE

 

     Background of the invention. We offer to all interested companies the Russian patented invention "Method of extension of number capacity of telephone network". The invention relates to the communication technology, in particular, to telephone networks with channel switching, i.e. to public service networks, mobile, local (for example, office or enterprise and other) networks. Using different technically realizable solutions, this method allows creating commercially attractive for users of telephone networks shortcut telephone numbers, which could be used by advertising and image reasons.

     Industrial prospective of the invention. There are approximately 140 million telephone numbers in Russia now. 40 million numbers from this amount are the numbers of wired telephone networks and 100 million numbers are wireless (mobile) ones. The invention allows extending capacity of wired and wireless telephone networks by 10 % i.e. by 14 million of telephone numbers due to creation of shortcut telephone numbers. Approximately 5 million of 14 million of shortcut numbers will be highly demanded by users of telephone networks by advertising and image reasons at approximate price of USD 200 for one shortcut telephone number. So, Russian market volume of shortcut telephone numbers in demand could be approximately USD 1 billion, and not less than USD 250 million could be spend by telephone networks operators on acquisition of special equipment, which allows to telephone networks to create shortcut telephone numbers.

     Attractiveness of the invention to telephone networks operators consists in fact that acquiring special equipment, allowing using shortcut telephone numbers, they will be able to make additional profit by sale of shortcut telephone numbers to users of telephone networks. Attractiveness of the invention to manufacturers of equipment for telephone networks consists in the fact that they could make additional profit by production and sale of special equipment, allowing using shortcut numbers, to telephone networks operators. Furthermore, the invention is of commercial interest for manufacturer of equipment for telephone networks by the following reason: in Russia only method of extension of number capacity of telephone network by use of shortcut telephone numbers is protected by patent, but nowhere in the world is the invention or industrial sample, which allows to realize this method protected by patent. It means that a company, which will patent a device for realization of this method, will be able to sell its equipment for telephone networks, allowing using shortcut numbers, exclusively around the world.

     The global volume of the market of shortcut telephone numbers could be USD 15-20 billion approximately, and approximately USD 5 billion of them could be spent by telephone networks operators on acquisition of special equipment allowing creating shortcut telephone numbers.

     Legal protection of the invention. The Russian application for invention No 2005140979 "Method of extension of number capacity of telephone network" was submitted in December 2005. The Russian Patent Office (Rospatent) has issued the Russian patent on the invention No 2325777. The patent application has been published September 27, 2007. The patent holders did not submit applications for invention in any other countries. All rights on the invention belong to two persons.

         The invention relates to the communication technology, in particular, to telephone networks with channel switching, i.e. to telephone public service networks, mobile, local (for example, office or enterprise and other) networks.
         It is known that all (without exception) telephone networks work on the basis of identification of a telephone set according to its number, which is unique for concrete network. The quantity of digits in telephone number within a concrete network is equal and consists for Moscow and Saint Petersburg (cities of the Russian Federation) of 7 digits. For smaller towns consists of 6 or 5 digits, etc., with correspondingly limited number capacity of 10 million, 1 million, 100 thousand, etc. numbers.
         Number capacity is the critical parameter of a network, limiting possibility of extension of network. Deficit of number capacity is inevitable in any developing network.
         Known palliative measures of extension of number capacity by addition of extra code (usually 2 to 4 digits) are not popular due to inconvenience of use.
         The closest to the invention solution is the "short telephone number" (STN) solution, such as well-known 01, 02, 03, 09, 009 etc. numbers. But STN reduces number capacity, excluding numbers of standard length, which begin with STN digits.
         Technical result of presented invention is the extension of number capacity of telephone networks above their nominal capacities of 10 million, 1 million, 100 thousand etc. numbers with 7, 6, 5 etc. digits by 10 to 11 %.
         The invention is realized without significant rearrangement of equipment, mainly by program features and introduction of additions to dialing discipline, and significantly more by installation of correspondent gateways between main and additional networks (as described below).
         Extension is achieved by use of N/10+N/100+N/1000... telephone numbers with quantity of digits in telephone number N-1, N-2, N-3 ... accordingly (6-, 5-, 4- digits for 7 digit telephone network), i. e. shortcut telephone numbers (SCTN). Calling on such telephone numbers is executed by simple dialing of such numbers. When telephone station detects absence of continuation of dialing up to the nominal number of digits, after established time of waiting of next digit (timeout), it readdress a call to a port, corresponding to dialed SCTN.
         If telephone station and calling telephone set have possibility to dial terminal symbol (usually "#"), this symbol is used as signal of timeout excess and jump to dialing of SCTN without loss of time on waiting of timeout expiration.
         In order to send to calling telephone information about jumping on SCTN after interruption of entry of next digits of called number, telephone station can admix into the line special tone signal, which may be different for different lengths of SCTN, including tone signal in form of voice prompt message.
         A tone of call also could be different for SCTN's of different length, which will inform a called telephone user about SCTN call.
         The separate problem is coupling of telephone networks, using the described method of creation and use of SCTN, with other networks, for example long distance and international networks. This problem is solved by use of the same algorithm "no next digits within timeout interval" on input of internetwork gateway. The only condition of realization of such method is the arrival on gateway input of dialing digits according to their transmission (not waiting for completion of determined length of dialing) beginning from some minimal dialing, usually identifying receiving station (for example, in Moscow it is the first 3 digits of number).
         The additional positive effect of implementation of SCTN is the possibility to provide SCTN of different length with simplified mnemonic indicators to public and state services, Internet providers for placement of modem pools, as well as commercial organizations, interested in short telephone numbers, at market prices, which could be much higher than standard ones due to their attractiveness, for example, for advertising.
         This method is realized particularly simple in well computerized mobile telephone networks, where implementation of the method reduces to extremely small modification of software for control equipment.
         Such SCTN could serve as gateways for connection of additional networks. Additional networks could have length of final number equal to standard length, but with pause between SCTN and number in additional network.

SOURCES OF INFORMATION

Beside wide known solutions with STN, there are no analogues to described invention.

CLAIMS

1.     Method of extension of number capacity of telephone network and analogous commutation networks with constant quantity of digits in telephone number (identifier of network terminal unit) characterized in that for the purpose of increasing of number capacity of a network the shortcut telephone numbers (SCNT) with length, which is less than nominal length N of telephone number in network by 1 to N-1 digits, is implemented; choice of such number is executed, if next digit of a number does not received within established time interval (timeout) or special terminal signal, for example, "#", replacing such termination, is received.

2.     Method according to item 1, characterized in that commutation unit (telephone station) on partial expiration of timeout begins to send to calling telephone tone signal or voice message, informing about close expiration of timeout interval and jump to SCTN call in accordance with received digits set.

3.     Method according to item 1, characterized in that communication unit (telephone station) indicates a SCTN call to calling telephone by tone signal, which is differed from usual, and may be different for different SCTN lengths.

4.     Method according to item 1, characterized in that in mobile and digital telephone networks changes, connected with implementation of the method, in the main part are related to software of central equipment of network, commutation equipment for mobile networks is not changed.

5.     Method according to item 1, characterized in that for the purpose of provision of access to shortcut numbers according to this method, identification of call of shortcut number from other network is executed by software of internetwork gateway on its input.

6.     Method according to item 1, characterized in that there is introduced discipline of distribution of shortcut numbers, for example, among state and public services, Internet providers for modem pools, commercial enterprises and anyone else.

7.     Method according to item 1, characterized in that part of shortcut numbers is used as numbers of call of gateways of additional networks, including with length of number, equal to convenient general network, but number is divided by pause between SCTN of gateway and internal number of additional network.
